(Manama) – Supreme Council for Youth and Sports deputy general secretary and Bahrain Olympic Committee (BOC) general secretary Abdulrahman Askar congratulated members of the cycling and weightlifting teams on the recent results achieved in their respective competitions.

Promising rider Mohammed Ebrahim Abdulla gave Bahrain its maiden medals at the Arab Track and Field Championships in Sharjah, in December, taking home a silver and bronze medal.

In weightlifting, another rising athlete Ibtisam Ali inspired Bahrain to claim 25 medals in total at the Arab and Afro-Asian Championships, both of which were held in Cairo also in December.

In his meeting with representatives of both teams at BOC premises in Seef, Askar said he is proud for the outstanding results made by the Bahraini athletes at regional and international events, and noted their dedication and keenness to put the kingdom’s flag among leading nations in different sporting competitions.

Askar also noted the efforts of both federations in the development of their respective sports, and vowed to continue the committee’s support all national sports federations, which is part of a massive plan, in order to achieve remarkable results on the international level.
