GMC: Minister of Economy Calls It Hub for Media Economic Dialogue

Abdullah bin Touq Al Marri, the Minister of Economy, has expressed that the second edition of the Global Media Congress (GMC) serves as an ideal platform for fostering regional and international discussions about the future of the media industry’s economics, its opportunities and challenges, and the role of governments in creating a business-friendly environment conducive to the growth of this crucial sector.

Scheduled to take place from November 14th to 16th at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre (ADNEC), the Global Media Congress will be held under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Vice President, Deputy Prime Minister, and Chairman of the Presidential Court.

In a statement to the Emirates News Agency (WAM), Al Marri highlighted the unprecedented growth in the media industry driven by significant technological advancements. This growth has positioned the entertainment and media sector as one of the primary economic sectors capable of providing new opportunities for growth, employment, and investment.

Al Marri also emphasized the media industry’s significance in the UAE’s national economy. The country has made substantial progress in becoming a prime destination for media investments by establishing specialized free zones, developing advanced digital infrastructure, and enacting flexible legislation and economic policies, enabling it to host regional headquarters of major media entities.

He noted the success of GMC’s inaugural edition, which attracted a substantial international audience from various media organizations worldwide. Al Marri expressed his desire for an even more distinguished edition in 2023, reflecting the significant transformations occurring in the global media industry and its role in advancing sustainable development goals.

The Global Media Congress is set to feature a diverse array of programs and exhibitions, focusing on the most pertinent issues related to the future of the media sector.

The three-day Congress, organized by the ADNEC Group in strategic partnership with the Emirates News Agency (WAM), will be held under the theme ‘Shaping the Future of the Media Industry.’ The event will comprise a three-day conference with over 30 sessions, where globally recognized media leaders and scholars will delve into critical topics pertinent to the industry.

Key themes for discussion this year include innovation, media education, sports journalism, environmental journalism, and the role of the youth
