Paris- After 17 years in politics, including two years as Prime Minister, Dominique de Villepin has finally decided to run for President in next elections.
Villepin made the announcement on French Television and indicated that he will run as an independent candidate as he resigned from his party Union pour un Mouvement Populaire (UMP). He stated, “I am not for the republic of parties. I don’t believe that truth lies on the right, on the left or in the center”.
Villepin became chief of staff in 1995 during the term of Former President Chirac. Later he was appointed to the posts of Foreign Minister, Interior Minister and then Prime Minister. He has never previously run for election at any level and promises to run as an independent candidate in coming elections.
