Mauro Gianetti, CEO and Team Principal of UAE Team Emirates, announced the team’s ambitious goal of achieving net-zero by 2030 during his presentation at COP28. The team, the first Professional Cycling Team to attain Carbon Neutrality at the end of the 2023 season, emphasized its commitment to sustainable sports and environmental consciousness. The net-zero objective involves an annual reduction of greenhouse gas emissions, incorporating eco-friendly practices like optimizing travel logistics and adopting energy-efficient technologies. UAE Team Emirates aims to engage fans through community initiatives promoting environmental awareness. The riders, serving as project champions, will advocate for sustainability, educating and inspiring younger generations. The team conducted a third-party audit, calculating its 2022 carbon footprint and offsetting emissions through international projects, securing certification as a Carbon Neutral Company.
