The Ministry of Health in the UAE inaugurates an AI Center of Excellence dedicated to healthcare.

The UAE Ministry of Health and Prevention (MoHAP) has officially inaugurated its first Center of Excellence (COE) for artificial intelligence within the healthcare sector. The COE’s primary objective is to advance the digitization of health data, leverage smart technologies for capacity development and healthcare services, and establish a comprehensive digital service ecosystem offering innovative, sustainable, and high-quality healthcare services to users.

This announcement was made during the participation of the Ministry at GITEX Technology Week 2023 in Dubai, where they are showcasing digital products and cutting-edge technical solutions to meet current and future healthcare needs, reinforcing their role as a key leader in the government’s digital transformation.

The COE, managed by Emirati experts in collaboration with SAS, a global leader in AI and analytics software, will focus on seven key areas. These include streamlining the process of medical facility licensing, facilitating organ transplants, improving radiological scan analyses, managing medicine stocks, analyzing birth and mortality data, enhancing data security, and contributing to big data analysis.

The establishment of the COE aligns with the UAE’s National Strategy for Artificial Intelligence 2031 and the vision of the UAE Centennial 2071, aiming to leverage technology innovations and big data for more effective decision-making in healthcare services. It also seeks to attract a talented team of national researchers to promote technological innovation and position the UAE as a global center for digital government.

The COE’s role is crucial in advancing healthcare services, with a focus on data analysis and predictive models using AI applications to enhance the overall health service experience. This collaboration with SAS emphasizes the Ministry’s commitment to utilizing advanced technologies like AI to improve the well-being and quality of life for the public and society through the development of the UAE’s healthcare sector.
