(Manama) – Under the patronage of Works Affairs Undersecretary at the Ministry of Works, Municipalities Affairs and Urban Planning and Chairman of the Organisational Culture and Activities Committee Ahmed Abdul Aziz Al Khayyat, a lecture titled ‘Health Nutrition: Reading the Nutrition Tag’ was held at the Ministry.

The lecture is part of phase 2 of the ‘Protect your Heart’ Campaign. The lecture was delivered by the General Health Consultant and Acting Head of Nutrition Department Dr. Buthaina Ajlan and the Nutrition Specialist of the Ministry of Health Shahzalan Abdul Hussain.

During the lecture, Dr. Ajlan introduced the attendees to the method of reading the nutrition tag (card) on any food product, which normally contains information about the ingredients of the product, number of calories and other components that could cause allergy to the consumer.

Ajlan also reiterated the importance of knowing details about any food product and understanding how much we need to consume a day, in order to maintain our health, avoid diseases resulting from malnutrition sand maintaining our weight.

The Nutrition Specialist Shahzalan Abdul Hussain highlighted the means of reading a nutrition tag and learning the ingredients of a food product according to certain percentages indicated on the tag. She also referred to the importance of being caution against any false claims indicated on some food items and products, which sometimes do not conform to the information indicated on the nutrition tag printed on the product.
