
(Brussels) – The 3rd Session of the UAE-EU Dialogue on Human Rights was held at the European Commission in Brussels. H.E. Dr. Abdul Rahim Al Awadi, Assistant UAE Foreign Minister for Legal Affairs, headed the UAE delegation to the meeting, which also included Sulaiman Hamed Al Mazroui, UAE Ambassador to the Kingdom of Belgium, and Head of the UAE Mission to the European Union, as well as a number of senior officials from ministries and representatives of Public Benefit Organisations (PBOs).
The EU side was led by EU Special Representative for Human Rights Stavros Lambrinidis and comprised Head of the Arabian Peninsula, Iran and Iraq Division, John O’rourke in addition to a number of high-profile officials and experts from the European External Action Service.
Launched early last year under an initiative by UAE Foreign Minister HH Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan and High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Catherine Ashton, the dialogue aims at deepening mutual understanding and maintaining communication and discussion on a variety of topics of mutual concern in human rights.It also contributes to highlight the bright image of the UAE in all fields.
The dialogue is held twice a year in rotation in Abu Dhabi and Brussels.
