
(Abu Dhabi) – H.H. Sheikha Lubna bint Khalid Al Qasimi, Minister of International Cooperation and Development, has met with Antonio Manuel de Oliveira Guterres, the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) on the sidelines of the inauguration of the Dubai International Humanitarian Aid and Development Conference and Exhibition (DIHAD 2013). During the meeting, which explored means of strengthening and streamlining cooperation between the UAE and the international aid organisation, Sheikha Lubna discussed mechanisms by which to strengthen the UAE’s global humanitarian role, pointing out that the UAE, along with its humanitarian institutions, hopes to provide assistance to any part of the world suffering from a humanitarian crisis, adding that it is now one of the world’s foremost countries that responds to crisis as a result of its adoption of an effective mechanism for monitoring and positively and constructively dealing with them.
For his part, Guterres congratulated, on behalf of the UNHCR, Sheikha Lubna on her new appointment as Minister of International Cooperation and Development, commending the increasingly important role the UAE plays in providing humanitarian aid and emergency assistance to displaced people at both the regional and international levels, especially to the refugees and displaced of humanitarian crisis and natural disasters.
