(Washington) – US Secretary of State John Kerry thanked the Amir of Kuwait Shaikh Sabah Al-Ahmed Al-Jaber Al-Sabah and the State of Kuwait for continuing to host the UN-led Yemen peace negotiations.
He telephoned the Special Envoy of the UN Special Envoy Ismail Ould Cheikh Ahmed to be updated on latest developments of the Yemen crisis and ongoing consultations.
Kerry said that Kuwait has shown “steadfast support for the negotiations,” according to a State Department readout. Kerry stressed the importance of the talks, describing them as the best opportunity to bring an end to the conflict. He underlined the need for both parties to abide by the existing ceasefire, noting that the Yemeni people have suffered for too long and deserve a lasting peace.
