(Abu Dhabi) – The Federal National Council (FNC) passed the draft child rights law after adding and amending a number of articles. Addressing the session, FNC Speaker H.E. Mohammed Ahmed Al Murr emphasised that two days of council discussions on the draft law for children’s rights are testimony to, and an expression of, the unremitting efforts of the state and its constitutional institutions “to achieve further progress and preserve the rights of every human being living in this good land, efforts which stem from its cultural, humanitarian heritage, and honourable religious values”.
The law defines basic rights of children, including the right to a safe life, medical attention and care and education. It prohibits child labour and the exploitation of children in begging. The FNC agreed on a definition in the law of ‘violence against children’ as the use of force against the child which could affect their health, growth or survival.
