
(Abu Dhabi) – H.H. Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Foreign Minister of UAE received at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Adnan Amin, Director-General of the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA). During the meeting, Sheikh Abdullah and Amin reviewed the latest developments regarding IRENA’s mission for deployment of renewable energy uses globally and explored prospects of joint cooperation in various fields in order to enhance capacity of the Abu Dhabi-based agency.
Sheikh Abdullah reiterated the UAE’s commitment and role as a key effective partner to IRENA and to its member states regarding efforts aimed at stimulating growth of the renewable energy sector to compete strongly in the world market.
For his part, IRENA chief highly valued the UAE’s role and its constant support for IRENA’s strategy, objectives and plans for future. He also expressed appreciation at the UAE hosting of the Abu Dhabi Ascent, a high-level UN meeting on climate change on 4-5 May, 2014, which underscored the international recognition for the leading role the UAE has been and is still playing in advancing scientific measures, arrangements and initiatives being made to mitigate impacts of climate change.
