Arab refugees’ plight discussed

(Cairo) – Arab League Secretary-General Ahmed Abul Ghait received Karim Atassi, United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) Regional Representative and discussed cooperation to improve the conditions of Arab refugees in the region and abroad.

The new UNHCR Representative briefed the Arab League Secretary-General on contingency plans to deal with massive flux of refugees due to the current situation in Syria, being the biggest humanitarian crises in the world.

Abul Ghait hailed the UNHCR-led efforts to deal with the pressing needs of distressed Arab refugees, in light of the current humanitarian hardships, particularly Syrian refugees.
