Tamkeen Launches Initiative

Tamkeen, the Labour Fund, has announced its backing for Alumicor, a global leader in aluminum recycling and manufacturing, as it establishes a new operational base in Askar. This initiative aligns with Tamkeen’s mission to bolster the industrial sector, a vital contributor to Bahrain’s national economy, particularly in aluminum manufacturing, a significant segment of the Kingdom’s exports.

The collaboration introduces cutting-edge international technologies in aluminum dross processing to Bahrain, providing local manufacturers with opportunities to enhance operational efficiency, minimize waste, and improve profitability.

The upcoming facility is anticipated to create more than 30 new job opportunities for Bahraini professionals, including ten in senior executive and administrative roles. These opportunities aim to cultivate the expertise of Bahraini professionals in the sector and position them as preferred employees in specialized and emerging industries.

Furthermore, the project supports knowledge transfer from Alumicor’s global operations to its Bahraini workforce, injecting the local industrial domain with technological advancements to boost efficiency and productivity.

Maha Abdulhameed Mofeez, Tamkeen Chief Executive, expressed pleasure in supporting this ambitious project, emphasizing its potential to accelerate Bahraini industrial growth and create opportunities that contribute to the expansion of the national economy. She highlighted the project’s alignment with Bahrain’s aspirations for carbon neutrality and sustainable practices.

Ryan Macconaiche, Alumicor spokesperson, outlined the goal of setting a new global benchmark for eco-conscious recycling within the aluminum industry. The aim is to establish a circular economy by transforming aluminum dross and waste into valuable resources. Alumicor plans to work closely with Bahrain’s leading aluminum industry players to enhance waste recovery methods and innovate new waste management strategies.

Tamkeen’s support is in line with its 2024 strategic priorities, focusing on economic impact and the private sector through increasing economic participation, expanding career development opportunities, and supporting enterprises to boost productivity and technology adoption.

Alumicor, recognized as a global innovator in the sector, operates in Bahrain, South Africa, Australia, and the Seychelles. With state-of-the-art technology, the company can recycle over 48,500 tons of aluminum dross and waste annually, equivalent to about half of Bahrain’s aluminum waste from manufacturing. Alumicor’s eco-friendly recycling techniques conserve up to 90% of the energy consumed in traditional aluminum remanufacturing, contributing to reduced emissions and increased aluminum recycling capacity.
