Emirates and AEGEAN expand codeshare to include Athens – Newark route.

In Athens on September 5th, 2023, Emirates and AEGEAN announced the expansion of their codeshare partnership, now including the Athens-New York (Newark) route. This development comes as both airlines mark one year of a successful collaboration that has benefited more than 16,800 passengers. Emirates passengers can now enjoy stopovers in Athens and access AEGEAN’s network to various Greek and European destinations, while AEGEAN travelers gain access to Emirates’ flights between Athens and Dubai, as well as Athens and Newark.

The codeshare agreement, initiated in August 2022, enables travelers to seamlessly book flights to eight domestic Greek destinations via Athens with a single ticket and unified baggage policy. AEGEAN’s code was also applied to Emirates-operated flights between Dubai and Athens.

This partnership enhances AEGEAN’s offering with flights to 17 domestic destinations and 53 additional points across regional Europe and the Middle East from its Athens hub, while Emirates passengers can access a global network of over 140 destinations across six continents from Dubai. The combined network now covers 200 destinations worldwide.

Travelers can book their itineraries through emirates.com, aegeanair.com, and various online and offline travel agents.

Adnan Kazim, Emirates’ Chief Commercial Officer, expressed their commitment to expanding partnerships and offering customers enhanced travel options. He highlighted their extensive network of codeshare and interline partners worldwide.

Dimitris Gerogiannis, AEGEAN CEO, emphasized the benefits of the expanded codeshare alliance, bringing Athens and New York closer for AEGEAN passengers and facilitating seamless travel to popular destinations. He praised the collaboration between the two airlines as a remarkable precedent for a seamless travel experience, benefiting both airlines and the Greek tourism industry.

Emirates is a global airline serving over 140 cities and operates the world’s largest fleet of modern wide-body aircraft. AEGEAN, along with subsidiary Olympic Air, carried 12.5 million passengers in 2022 and offers a vast network of destinations across 46 countries, serving 165 destinations in 2023. AEGEAN is a member of the STAR ALLIANCE and has received numerous accolades for excellence in the aviation industry.
