(Geneva) – The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, represented by King Salman Centre for Relief and Humanitarian Aid, has pledged to pay $20 million, during Donors’ Conference on the Rohingya Refugee Crisis.

Dr. Yahya Al-Shammari, head of the Centre’s delegation to the gathering delivered a speech, expressing sincere thanks to and appreciation of both the State of Kuwait and the European Union for their generous invitation and sponsorship of such an important conference, on urgent financing humanitarian aspects of the Rohingya refugee crisis, according to the official Saudi Press Agency (SPA).

He also thanked the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) and the International Organization for Migration (IOM) for organizing the event, which will contribute to alleviate the suffering of the Rohingya refugees.

The head of the delegation commended the great humanitarian role played by the sisterly Republic of Bangladesh for receiving over 580,000 refugees from Rohingya, in one of the largest movements of asylum-seeking in the world since 25 August 2017.

Since its unification by the founding King Abdulaziz bin Abdulrahman Al Saud, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has extended support to communities and needy countries, he pointed out, adding that it has been, at the forefront of the humanitarian and development work in the world.

The Kingdom has provided a substantial portion of aid support, with a total of about $66 million, in the last 10 years, only, he asserted, saying that the Kingdom has also confirmed this pioneering role by receiving over the past 40 years, more than 300,000 vulnerable Rohingyas.
