(Manama) – The Shura Council convened its special session presided over by Chairman Ali bin Saleh Al Saleh, and referred the bill of amendment of the Kingdom’s Constitution and its Explanatory Memorandum associated with Royal Decree 7/2017 to the Council’s Legislation and Legal Affairs Committee.

The chairman opened the session by affirming that the requisite quorum to hold the session was attained. The bill was received by the Shura Council on 22 February after the Council of Representatives discussed it on February 21 during the third session of the fourth legislative term which was referred to Parliament by His Royal Highness Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa the Prime Minister following its endorsement by His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa to amend the Kingdom of Bahrain’s Constitution pursuant to the provision of Articles 33/C, 35/A and 120 of the Kingdom’s Constitution.

The Shura held its special session today in compliance with article 88 of its statute to explain the dimensions of the said bill of constitutional amendment and the decision of the Council of Representatives in this regard.

The proposed bill of constitutional amendment suggests the replacement for Article One in the Constitution with a new text Clause B of Article 105 regarding the regulation of the military judiciary and its jurisdictions in the BDF, National Guard and Public Security in addition to an executive article.
