(Munich) – Addressing world leaders at Munich Security Summit, US Vice-President Joseph Biden said that a free trade zone between the US and Europe is gaining traction and could become a reality. A free-trade deal is “within our reach” after leaders on both side of the Atlantic have shown “lots of interest,” Biden added.
US and European leaders have shown increased interest in opening the $15 trillion US economy to the $13.1 trillion of goods and services produced by the 17-nation euro region, a move that would create the world’s largest free trade zone. Germany Chancellor Angela Merkel, also said that she sees positive signs for a deal. French trade minister Nicole Bricq has called for France to formulate its position on a free trade zone in a January 29 statement.
