Muscat, The Gulf Observer: Today, Oman’s National Museum at Bayt Greiza proudly opened the exhibition “The Infinity of White: Lucio Fontana and the Italian Artists of the Absolute,” marking a significant cultural exchange between Oman and Italy.
In collaboration with the renowned Italian foundation “Robilant and Voena,” the exhibition features eight remarkable works by influential Italian artists, including Agostino Bonalumi, Enrico Castellani, Pietro Consagra, Lucio Fontana, Piero Manzoni, and Paolo Scheggi. These visionaries challenged artistic traditions to unlock the boundless potential of space.
“Robilant and Voena,” dedicated to promoting Italian post-war art, played a crucial role in bringing the exhibition to fruition. The foundation lends an artwork by Agostino Bonalumi, titled “Rosso (Red),” to be displayed alongside the National Museum’s permanent collection.
Jamal Hassan Al Moosawi, Secretary-General of the National Museum, expressed enthusiasm, stating that the project enriches the palace’s artistic dimensions. He hopes visitors will have an unforgettable artistic experience.
Edmondo di Robilant and Marco Voena, Partners at Robilant +Voena, shared excitement, emphasizing the exhibition’s uniqueness as the first focusing on Spatialism and its legacy in the 1960s and 1970s in the Middle East. They aim to introduce new audiences to the pioneering artistic experiments of Lucio Fontana and his contemporaries.
The exhibition illustrates the diversity and innovation of artists from the 1950s to the 1970s, bound together by the color white, symbolizing artistic purity and highlighting spatial experiments in monochrome.
“The Infinity of White” at the National Museum contributes to the region’s cultural vibrancy, fostering understanding of Italian post-war art’s transformative impact. The collaboration signifies a commitment to international cultural dialogue and the promotion of artistic excellence.
