PM establishes Global Initiatives Foundation

(Dubai) – In his capacity as Ruler of Dubai, Vice President and Prime Minister of the United Arab Emirates, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, has issued Law No (33) of 2015 on the establishment of the Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Initiatives Foundation (MBRGIF), which defines the goals and functions of the foundation and the entities concerned for purposes of the law.
Sheikh Mohammed issued Decree No (41) of 2015 constituting the board of trustees under HH’s chairmanship and membership of H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, as Deputy Chairman, H.H. Sheikh Maktoum bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai, HRH Princes Haya bint Al Hussein, HH Sheikha Manal bint Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, HH Sheikh Ahmed bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum and HH Sheikha Maitha bint Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum.
Other members include Mohammed Abdullah Al Gergawi, Humaid Mohammed Al Qattami, Reem Ibrahim Al Hashimy, Ibrahim Mohammed Abu Milha, Hussain Nasser Lootah, Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, Mona Ghanim Al Marri, Sami Ahmed Al Qamzi, Dr. Hamad Al Shaikha Ahmed Al Shaibani, Jamal Khalfan bin Huwairib, Dr. Raja Isa Al Gurg, Abdullah Mohammed Al Basti and Saeed Mohammed Al Danahani.
The board of trustees shall serve for three renewable years.
Sheikh Mohammed also issued, in his capacity as Ruler of Dubai, Decree No. 42 for 2015, appointing Mohammed Abdullah Al Gergawi as Secretary-General of the MBRGIF, and Decree No. 43 for 2015, appointing Saeed Mohammed Al Danahani as its Assistant Secretary-General.
The Law No. 33 for 2015 specifies the Foundation’s objectives, including providing support to the UAE’s overall strategy for humanitarian, developmental and social work, co-ordinating efforts of the key stakeholders, to focus its programmes in the UAE and Arab region on human development in an integrated manner starting with providing basic human needs, from health, fighting illiteracy and poverty to providing knowledge, the dissemination of culture and the development of education.
The law also mandates the Foundation to oversee and co-ordinate all initiatives and programmes undertaken by its key stakeholders, to submit reports to the chairman, to develop a strategic communications plan for integrating all initiatives under the foundation and to devise a mechanism for information management.
The law names the key stakeholders and programmes affiliated to the foundation, including Noor Dubai, UAE Water Aid, Al Jalila Foundation, Mohammed bin Rashid Charity and Humanitarian Establishment , Dubai Cares, Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Foundation, Dubai Museum of the Future, Mohammed bin Rashid Establishment for SMEs Development, and the International Humanitarian City.
Other stakeholders include the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Knowledge Award, Mohammed bin Rashid Arabic Language Award, Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Sports Award, Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Award for World Peace, Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Patrons of Arts Award, Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Award for Young Business Leaders, Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Award for Arab Journalism, UAE Drones for Good Award, Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Centre for Leadership Development, Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Centre for Cultural Understanding, Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum School of Communication, Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum School of Government, Knowledge Conferences, Dubai International Peace Convention, Dubai Sports, Arab Reading Challenge, Arab Social Media Influencers Summit, Arab Media Forum and Arab Strategy Forum.
The board of trustees shall oversee the foundation’s day-to-day operations, including the endorsement of the annual budget and closing accounts before submitting to the chairman for approval.
The law and the decrees shall be effective from the date of issuance and shall be published in the official gazette.
