(Manama) – Minister of Works, Municipalities Affairs and urban Planning, Essam bin Abdulla Khalaf toured the Dialysis Centre Project located in Hunainiya at the Southern Governorate, which belongs to the Health Ministry, to inspect progress achieved in the project.

Khalaf was accompanied by Corporate Municipal Services Assistant Undersecretary and Acting Construction Projects and Maintenance Assistant Undersecretary Eng. Raed Al Salah, Construction Projects Director Eng. Mariam Amin, a number of engineers from the Ministry and representatives to the project contractor Aradus Contracting & Maintenance.

The Minister Khalaf emphasised the Government’s and leadership’s concern for improving health care in the Kingdom by constructing specialized centers in providing health services to citizens. He stated that that work on the concrete structure has completed, in addition to the construction of the internal and external wall divisions of the main building. Work is underway to complete the internal and external finishing works and the related electrical and mechanical works. Also, the soil supporting wall has been constructed and the sub-power station completed and handed over to the Electricity and Water Authority.

In addition, the services and external facilities buildings and also the outside wall have completed. 69.5% progress has been achieved in the project so far, which is planned for completion by mid- June 2018. The BD6,085,000 project is being funded by the Saudi Development Fund as part of the Gulf Development Programme. The project tender was earlier awarded to Aradus Contracting and Maintenance.

The project design takes into account all the necessary facilitations needed for patients and visitors with special needs, which include the provision of parking spaces and slopes close to all entrances, in addition to providing an elevator close to all entrances and rest rooms that accommodate the needs of the disabled. The project has also taken into consideration the best green buildings practices, which the Government and the Ministry are keen to apply to all construction projects.

Due to the topographic nature of the project location, with a land level that varies by more than 5 meters, the project represented a challenge to the Ministry during its implementation. The land variation has been utilized for the benefit of the project, where the height differences have been taken advantage of to construct the parking lot and the location for some tools. The highest land level has been dedicated for the main building, while the lower level has been used for services and parking spaces. Environment-friendly materials and rubber flooring has been used in the project as well, in addition to usage of treated water and air-conditioning water for irrigation and cleaning purposes.

The Government has allocated a piece of land of a total area of 21,550m2, while the construction area extends on an area of 8,854m2. The main building comprises of 2 levels with a capacity to accommodate 60 beds. The ground level contains a reception and registration hall, 6 external clinics, treatment rooms, labs, a pharmacy, X-Ray department, waiting areas, rooms for the nursing team and a central store, while the first level includes three wings for peritoneal dialysis and blood wash, an isolation wing, a fluid purification station for the fluids used in dialysis and a repair workshop, in addition to the administrative offices and public utilities such as toilets, sub-power station, a guard room and external fence. A parking lot is also provided, with the capacity to accommodate 232 vehicles.
