(New Delhi) – The marathon general elections spread over nine phases in 35 days comes to an end with polling taking place in 41 constituencies of Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and West Bengal. The fates of several political heavyweights, including opposition Bharatiya Janata Party’s prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi, Aam Aadmi Party chief Arvind Kejriwal, Samajwadi Party president Mulayam Singh Yadav and federal minister R.P.N. Singh will be sealed on Monday.
The polling to elect the 17th Lok Sabha thus far has been marked with unprecedented hostility and the highest ever voter turnout.
All eyes in the last of the nine-phased polls will be on Varanasi, the seat of Uttar Pradesh where Modi, the incumbent Gujarat chief minister, is being challenged by Aam Aadmi Party chief Arvind Kejriwal and the Congress party’s Ajay Rai.
