Law on disposition of impounded vehicles issued

(Dubai) – In his capacity as Ruler of Dubai, Vice President and Prime Minister of the United Arab Emirates, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, has issued Law No 23 of 2015 regulating the disposition of impounded vehicles in the Emirate of Dubai.
The law stipulates that the Dubai Police Commander-in-Chief shall set up a committee on disposition of the impounded vehicles with representatives from Dubai Police, Dubai Municipality, Roads and Transport Authority, Dubai Public Prosecution and other government entities concerned as members.
Under the terms of reference, the committee is tasked with checking and evaluating the impounded vehicles and making sure, in co-ordination with the competent authorities including the judiciary, whether they were seized by any other entity.
The law authorises the committee to sell the impounded vehicles at a public auction in virtue of provisions of this law and Law No 6 of 1997 regarding contracts of government departments and procedures and rules approved by Dubai Police.
