(Kuwait) – Kuwait has won a four-year member seat in the International Telecommunications Union, ITU, Council after securing 121 votes. The attainment came during ITU’s 19th Plenipotentiary Conference, currently being held in Busan, South Korea.
18 Asian states competed over 13 seats, as Kuwait came fifth in the elections, head of the Kuwaiti delegation and Ambassador to the Republic of South Korea, Jassim Al-Bidaiwi told. “This win comes in assertion of Kuwait’s respectful international status. This would enable Kuwait to contribute in the process of decision-making at the Union for the next four years,” he noted.
Kuwait has been an active member of the Union since 1982, with noticeable financial and administrative contributions.
