(Amman) – Jordan hosted the 9th meeting of the ‘Counter Daesh Finance’ Group with the aim of assessing accomplishments made in fighting Daesh and exchange expertise among concerned countries to dry up the sources of Daesh funding.

Governor of the Central Bank of Jordan (CBJ) and Chairman of the National Anti-Money Laundering and Counter-Terrorist Financing, Ziyad Farzi, said in remarks during the meeting that was attended by representatives of the Global Coalition to Counter Daesh, that depriving the terrorist group of the sources of funding and the use of oil resources is of special importance, according to Jordan’s News Agency (Petra).

He stressed Jordan’s commitment to joint action to fight the terrorist group, noting that Jordan, which has suffered from terrorism, is shouldering the responsibility of addressing the financing of terrorism to protect its national interests. Fariz added that the meeting focuses on the exchange of information and ideas on the work that should be done to counter the financing of terrorism and dry up its sources of funding.

Assistant Secretary for Terrorist Financing in the United States Department of the Treasury, Marshall Billingslea, said the US government appreciates its strong ties with Jordan and the Central Bank of Jordan as well as cooperation to fight the financing of terrorism. He said that Daesh has lost 95 percent of its territories, adding that the meeting in Jordan aims at discussing means to eliminate the terrorist group and deprive it from the sources of financing to prevent it from continuing its terrorist acts.

Billingslea said the meeting will focus on issues pertaining to Daesh and its activities as well as other terror group not only in Syria and Iraq, but also in Sudan, Somalia, Libya, Tunisia and other states, Petra reported.
