HM King receives European Parliament delegation

(Manama) – His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa received at Safriya Palace, a delegation from the European Parliament led by member of the Foreign Affairs Committee Amjad Beshir.

HM the King welcomed them, lauding strong historic relations between Bahrain and the European Union member states and their progress in all fields. He stressed keenness to further cement those relations for the common interest of both sides. He also underlined the importance of such visits in bolstering cooperation regarding various issues and the current developments.

HM King Hamad spotlighted Bahrain’s achievements since the launch of the reform project, particularly in the political, economic, social, educational and cultural fields. He stressed Bahrain’s strides on the path of reform and development, pointing out the kingdom’s resolve to go ahead with further promoting the democratic march to bring about more progress and boost citizens’ welfare. He also stressed keenness to protect human rights in Bahrain, underscoring the kingdom’s unwavering commitment to international laws and covenants in this respect. He asserted that human rights is an integral part of the Islamic culture and faith. Therefore, he said, “promoting them in the community is a top priority.”

HM the King lauded cohesion and co-existence characterizing the Bahraini community thanks to awareness of the Bahraini people and their keenness on national unity. He praised the achievements of Bahraini women and their contribution, alongside men, to Bahrain’s growth. He also discussed with the European Parliament delegation regional and international developments, commending the role of the European Parliament in bolstering regional and international peace and stability.

The delegation Head and members thanked HM the King for his keenness to further develop relations with the European Union member states, commending development of human and women’s rights in Bahrain. They described Bahrain as a vivid model for constant development in all areas, stressing keenness to further enhance cooperation with Bahrain and lauding the kingdom’s contributions to fostering regional peace and stability.

In a statement after the meeting, the Foreign Minister praised the meeting which, he said, spotlighted relations between Bahrain, the GCC countries and the European Union. He pointed out that the delegation had held many meetings with many parties in Bahrain, stressing the kingdom’s keenness on more cooperation with the European Union.

On his part, the Head of the delegation Amjad Beshir voiced happiness about visiting Bahrain at the helm of a delegation from the European Parliament and meeting the Foreign Minister to identify challenges facing Bahrain in promoting regional stability. He commended the kingdom’s major role in this regard, underlining strong ties binding Bahrain and the United Kingdom.
