(Manama) – Cabinet Affairs Minister Mohammed bin Ibrahim Al Mattawa has affirmed that “development and training are top priorities in the Government Action Plan (GAP2015-2018). The government is proceeding with the accomplishment of the strategic priorities in its programme,” he said.

The minister stressed the significance of government performance including the priorities of boosting of efficiency and effectiveness of government performance, enhancement of the public sector’s productivity, simplification of procedures for provision of services, development of mechanisms, measurement and follow up of government performance, and boosting the culture of measurement via performance indices.

Al Mattawa expressed these remarks as he was lecturing on the subject of “Governance of Public Institutions” before an audience of affiliates of the ‘Government Leadership Induction Programme’ for batches 13 and 14 comprising 40 directors from various ministries and governmental institutions in the Kingdom of Bahrain.

He affirmed the importance of laying work mechanism at the institutional level, including definition of the institutional leadership team, boosting the principle of partnership through setting measurement indices, determining the governance criteria for governmental institutions and appraisal thereof.

He added that the governance of governmental organisations requires spreading the culture and concepts of governance inside the institution, in addition to the assessment, revision, modification of systems and executive procedures in the governmental institutions as befits the requirements and concepts of governance.
