(Bangkok) – Minister of Foreign Affairs Shaikh Khalid bin Ahmed bin Mohammed Al Khalifa stated that the Kingdom of Bahrain will host the first meeting of the secretaries-general of all international, regional and sub-regional forums and organizations.
Shaikh Khalid made the statement as he attended a dinner banquet hosted by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Thailand, Don Pramudwinai, in honour of the ministers of foreign affairs of the Asia Cooperation Dialogue.
It was on the sidelines of the visit of His Royal Highness Prime Minister Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa, heading Bahrain’s delegation in the second Asian Cooperation Dialogue Summit held on October 8 – 10 in Bangkok.
Shaikh Khalid affirmed the importance of benefiting from the important summit to develop a unified position that establishes the status provided by the international law on the principle of the sovereignty of state and its immunity from undergoing national jurisdiction of any state.
He stressed that adopting any unilateral legislation undermining or affecting this principle is a clear violation of the principles of international law as well as against all international norms and a clear violation of the Charter of the United Nations.
The minister warned that the politicization of law and having states tried by the courts as individuals is a dangerous precedent in international relations, and will create chaos, topple mutual trust between the countries, and adversely affects all areas of international cooperation as well as on international peace and security.
He affirmed the importance of bolstering Asian cooperation by giving priority to the six pillars of cooperation agreed upon, in line with the agenda of the United Nations Commission on Sustainable Development 2030, which the Kingdom of Bahrain joined as a principle backer for five of the six pillars.
