Discussions on reviewing Arab League’s charter held

(Cairo) – 10th meeting of an Arab League team tasked with reviewing the charter of the pan-Arab organisation and developing an intellectual framework for joint Arab action was held.
The meeting, which was attended by permanent representatives of member states, was part of the efforts being made to introduce reforms to the Arab League.
The UAE’s delegation at the meeting was headed by Acting Permanent Representative to the Arab League, Khalifa Al Tenaiji. It included In-Charge of the UAE Permanent Mission to the Arab League, Hani bin Huwaiden, and Abdullah Saleh Al Hammadi, Head of Legal Affairs at the UAE Permanent Mission.
Saudi Arabia’s permanent representative, Ahmed Abdulaziz Al Qattan, who chaired the meeting, told reporters: “We are executing the decisions made by the Arab League’s Ministerial Council to amend the charter, develop the intellectual framework of joint Arab action as well as the basic employment system and the bye-laws.”
“The new charter will be finalised soon to keep pace with global developments. The league’s voting system will be considered in the next sessions. It should be changed,” Al Qattan added.
