
(Manama) – His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa attended Bahrain International Ironman competitions which kicked off with the participation of more than 1200 racers from around the world alongside athletes from Bahrain and the GCC countries.
On arrival at Bahrain International Circuit (BIC), HM the King was welcomed by Personal Representative of His Majesty the King for Charity Work and Youth Affairs, Chairman of the Supreme Council for Youth and Sport and President of Bahrain Olympic Committee Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa.
HM the King crowned the winners of the first, second and third places. They are Terenzo Bozzone, from Bahrain Endurance Team 13, Steffen Justus and Sam Appleton who is from Bahrain Endurance Team 13.
In the woman category, Sarah Crowley grabbed first place while Emma Pallant and Caroline Steffen clinched second and third places respectively.
HM the King congratulated the winners and racers in the championship, wishing them continuous success.
Shaikh Nasser presented HM the King with a briefing on the stages of the championship (swimming, cycling and running) as well as the participants who represent an elite of well-reputed international athletes as well as amateur sportsmen.
HM the King exchanged talks with the athletes taking part in the championship who thanked him for Bahrain’s organization for the sporting event and the facilities provided to ensure its success.
HM the King congratulated Shaikh Nasser and Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa on the outstanding success of the international championship which reflects Bahrain’s elevated status as a major host of such events. He also lauded their role and efforts to diversify sports and encourage Bahraini youngsters to participate in them.
HM the King received, in the presence of Shaikh Nasser, Bahrain Endurance Triathlon Team 13 which comprises an elite of renowned international athletes. He commended the efforts of Shaikh Nasser and Shaikh Khalid in setting up the team, praising its good results and wishing it more success.
HM the King asserted that the sporting event had been able to attract many viewers, stressing that such competitions is an important means to boost friendship and cooperation and promote inter-cultural exchange.
HM the King watched part of the competitions as well as Shaikh Khalid’s participation in them.
