(Cairo) – The UAE has participated in the meeting of Arab Focal Points of the United Nations Alliance of Civilisations at the Arab League Secretariat General in Cairo.
Hani bin Huwaiden, a diplomat at the UAE Embassy in Cairo and a member of the UAE delegation to the Arab League, represented the UAE at the meeting.
Samia Bibars, head of culture and dialogue at the League of Arab States, said the participants discussed joint Arab activities to be included in a four year pan-Arab strategy for the Alliance of Civilisations. The strategy was proposed by eight Arab League members to produce programmes that can be funded and carried out.
The Focal Points are appointed by the Group of Friends of the United Nations Alliance of Civilisations which currently comprise 118 UN member states and 26 international organisations, representing all continents, societies, and cultures. Focal Points are officials of governments or international organisations who coordinate UNAOC related work in their institutions and facilitate the dialogue with the UNAOC network.
