(Cairo) – Arab League Secretary-General Ahmed Abul-Gheit has expressed surprise at the US Congress’s introduction of a legislation so-called “justice against sponsors of terrorism”.
Abul-Gheit said in a statement that the law contains provisions that do not comply with the principles of the Charter of the United Nations or with established norms of international law, nor has any basis in international norms or stable rules for relations between states, based on non-recognizing, under any pretext, or imposing internal law of one state on other countries.
Spokesman for the Secretary-General, Mahmoud Afifi, reaffirmed and made clear the position of the Arab League that rejects and condemns terrorism in all forms and reiterated respect for international law and stick with it, pointing out that Abul-Gheit expressed hope that the US administration will be able to stop this shameful law, which would serve, on adoption, to strain relations, including possible repercussions on already regional situation that is far from being stable
