28th August declared as Emirati Woman Day

(Abu Dhabi) – H.H. Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak, Chairwoman of the General Women’s Union (GWU), Supreme Chairwoman of the Family Development Foundation (FDF) and President of the Supreme Council for Motherhood and Childhood, has declared 28th of August each year as “Emirati Woman Day” to recount the national achievements attained by the GWU since its inception under the care of the wise leadership.
All the local and federal institutions, and the civil society will observe this day to commemorate the establishment of the GWU, the first federal women gathering that includes all the women organisations nationwide under the leadership of Sheikha Fatima.
The GWU was established on 28th August 1975 in accordance with the initiative of Sheikha Fatima to unify all the women organisations in a single unified women body to empower women and boost their status in terms of development.
