(Cairo) – The 12th summit of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) was convened in Cairo. About 27 heads of Islamic states and 29 representatives participated in the summit. As the rotating chairman of the OIC, Egypt’s President Mohamed Morsi delivered inauguration speech. For the first time, OIC summit has been hosted by Egypt since the establishment of the organization in 1969.
Its Ministerial Council, which is composed of the foreign ministers of member states, convenes annually while the summit is held once every three years. During the summit participants addressed national, regional and international issues. At the end, “The Cairo Declaration,” a final statement was issued. The priority topics mainly discussed during the summit include Israeli settlements in occupied Palestinian territories and the situation in Syria and Mali.
