(Doha) – The UAE made a presentation showcasing its impressive experience in building residential communities at the 14th meeting of the GCC housing ministers, held in the Qatari capital of Doha recently.
Dr. Abdullah bin Mohammed Belhaif Al Nuaimi, Minister of Public Works and Chairman of the Sheikh Zayed Housing Programme, told the GCC meeting about the special features of the UAE residential development model, stressing the vital importance of the sector as a key contributor to the GCC’s social stability.
He also called upon the GCC housing ministries to share their experiences and experiments.
Qatari Minister of Labour and Social Affairs Abdullah Saleh Mubarak Al Khulaifi announced that a standard GCC building code will be launched by this year-end.
Experts said the code will be based on international best practices and will focus on safety and sustainable development. It will take into consideration environmental needs of the region, its topography and Arab and Islamic architecture.
In his opening address to the ministerial meeting, Al Khulaifi highlighted the important role being played by the private sector as an engine of economic growth and generator of high-added-value job opportunities through which young people would contribute towards building, enhancing and improving the performance of the GCC countries’ economies and take them towards a bright future.
