(Gothenberg) – Abu Dhabi Ocean Racing completed a Volvo Ocean Race double in the city of Gothenburg (Goteborg in Swedish) when its sixth-place finish in the final in-port race secured the overall victory in the 10-part series.
The team clinched the main off-shore trophy in the nine-month race on Monday when it arrived in southern Sweden after a journey of more than 38,000 nautical miles and stops on every continent.
The in-port races have been held after every major leg. Only one other team, ABN AMRO in 2005-06, has won both the off-shore and in-port part of the competition in the 41-year history of the triennial event.
