(London) – The British government has approved construction of a high-speed rail link between the country’s two biggest cities.
The 140-mile line, known as High Speed 2, will carry 225 mph trains between London and Birmingham and is projected to cost $50 billion. The investment is welcomed by the business groups.
Transport Secretary Justine Greening said the project would transfer about 4.5 million journeys per year from air and road to trains.
