Suu Kyi confirms run for parliament seat

Suu Kyi(Myanmar) – Myanmar democracy leader Aung San Suu Kyi has confirmed that she will personally contest the April polls for a seat in parliament.

The confirmation was officially made by Ms. Suu Kyi’s National League for Democracy party. Ms. Suu Kyi will contest a seat in a suburb of Yangon, Myanmar’s biggest city, a party official said.

Suu Kyi’s decision to run in polls is the latest vote of confidence for Myanmar’s government reforms that include the legalization of labor unions, increasing press freedom and opening a dialogue with other parties.
