(Abu Dhabi) – President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan received the German President Christian Wulff at Al Diyafa Palace, where an official reception was held to welcome the visiting dignitary and his delegation. On the occasion, National anthems of both the countries were played, followed by a guard of honor.
President Sheikh Khalifa also met with the members of the delegation accompanying the German President, which included Jochen Homann of the German Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology; Dr Clemens von Goetze, Director-General for Foreign Affairs at the Office of the Federal President; Dagmar Freitag, Chair of the Parliament’s Sports Committee; Herbert Frankenhauser, Deputy Chairman of the Budget Committee; Michael Glos and Gunter Gloser, members of the Foreign Affairs Committee; Michael Hennrich, member of the Health Committee and Ambassador of Germany to the UAE Nikolai von Schoepff.
During the talks, President Khalifa expressed his hope that the visit would help expand bilateral and cooperative relations between the two countries, and open up further avenues of cooperation between both countries. His Highness Shaikh Khalifa stressed that the United Arab Emirates is keen to further expand the scope of relations with Germany, and appreciated the progress made by Germany particularly in the areas of technology industry and encouraged joint investment projects between both countries.
The German President expressed his pleasure over the opportunity to visit UAE and meet President Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, and appreciated the phenomenal progress achieved by the UAE in various fields especially in economic and development arenas that has given the UAE international and regional significance under Shaikh Khalifa’s leadership. President Wulff expressed his confidence that visit will encourage his country to find more opportunities for cooperation between UAE and Germany.
Later, President Khalifa hosted a luncheon banquet in honor of the German President and the delegation accompanying him, which was attended by Sheikhs, Ministers and senior military and civilian officials in the UAE. President Wulff expressed his thanks and appreciation to the President and the officials in the UAE for the warm and generous hospitality.
