(Washington) – Myanmar’s Aung San Suu Kyi is on her first official visit to Washington, punctuating the remarkable thawing of tensions between the United States and Myanmar over the last year. She met with Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton at the State Department and held a series of public and private meetings with administration officials, lawmakers and democracy advocates.
During her visit, Suu Kyi will also head to the states of New York, Connecticut, Massachusetts, Kentucky and California to accept awards, speak to students and scholars, and greet refugees from her country.
