Sheikh Abdullah Attends Asian Security Summit

(Singapore) – H. H. Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, UAE Foreign Minister participated in the opening ceremony of the 12th Asia Security Summit (The Shangri La Dialogue). The three-day event is attended by a number of Defence, Interior and Foreign Ministers, senior government officials, military analysts and decision makers in diplomatic and security circles from 27 countries.
John Chipman, Director-General and Chief Executive, International Institute for Strategic Studies (IISS), delivered a keynote speech, in which he affirmed the importance of Asian Security Summit as an inevitable event for the region’s security structure in Asia and the Pacific Ocean countries. He added that the Summit would avail an opportunity for ministers and senior officials to discuss the current and future security, and political issues as well. The Vietnamese Prime Minister, Nguyen Tan Dung, delivered the keyword address at the inaugural ceremony.
The summit organised by the International Institute for Strategic Studies (IISS) discuss a number of important issues, particularly the regional and security situation, cooperation and exchange in the field of defence, as well as strengthening security partnerships in the Asia-Pacific region, control of the spread of weapons of mass destruction and evaluation of the security challenges.
The plenary sessions will include discussions on the U.S approach to regional security, conflict prevention, military modernisation, Afghanistan, the significance of cyber-security in Asia and the strengthening of defence cooperation in the Asia-Pacific region.
On the sidelines of the Summit, Sheikh Abdullah met the Singapore’s Foreign Minister K. Shanmugam and discussed with him ways of enhancing cooperation in all fields, in the best interest of the two friendly countries.
