(Kabul) – The Independent Election Commission announced Ashraf Ghani as the likely winner of the presidential race according to initial results. Addressing a press conference in Kabul, the head of the election commission announced that Ghani had secured 55.44 percent of the 8 million votes cast in the second and final round.
The according to the election commission official, Abdullah Abdullah had secured 45 percent of the total votes cast in the first round but only managed to secure 43 percent in the final round. Ashraf Ghani had secured only 31 percent of the votes cast in the first round but manages to secure more than 55 percent of the votes cast in the final round.
