(Abu Dhabi) – In co-operation with the World Bank, the Department of Economic Development, DED, in Abu Dhabi organised the Doing Business Forum 2018 in the emirate.

Over 100 participants took part in the event, which aims to exchange expertise and best experiences in relation to the development and update of all the procedures, processes and laws pertaining to doing business across the emirate.

Khalifa Al Mansouri, Under-Secretary of DED, said in his opening speech that the Forum aims to reinforce the efforts of the Abu Dhabi government towards determining the course of the development and update of all the procedures, processes and laws pertaining to doing business in Abu Dhabi.

This will help enhance Abu Dhabi’s competitiveness and improve the quality of all its services to match the best international practices and specifications, which are considered key factors that allow enhancement on the regional and international levels.

Al Mansouri thanked all the governmental bodies in Abu Dhabi for their fruitful co-operation with the work team of the Competitiveness Office of Abu Dhabi and the work team of the World Bank to prepare the Doing Business Report for 2018 by providing all the necessary data and information.

He explained that the importance of the report in Abu Dhabi lies in the comparison between Abu Dhabi and the 189 countries that are covered by the Global Report.

In addition, he emphasised the importance of the next stage following the issuance of the report. In the next stage, work and co-ordination must continue with the Competitiveness Office of Abu Dhabi to devise the developmental plan and follow up on the work plan, its proposals and recommendation so as to achieve continuous improvement of all the laws and procedures that are related to doing business in Abu Dhabi.

He emphasised the DED’s keenness to launch this report in co-operation with the World Bank so as to enable its strategic partners to work together in order to improve and develop its procedures and laws that pertain to doing business in Abu Dhabi. This step will help scientifically measure Abu Dhabi’s global competitiveness by providing the reasonable foundations to achieve a more accurate analysis of the economic data.

He stated that the results of the Abu Dhabi indicators in the Doing Business Report 2016 have seen significant improvement in ranking. It achieved 26 degrees on the commercial activity commencement index and 18 degrees in the issuance of construction permits. Also, Abu Dhabi was registered as one of the top five countries in the world based on the contracts enforcement index.

In the first session of the Forum, the participants presented the latest updates on the Doing Business Report in Abu Dhabi for 2018. In this session, Hala Al Ameri, Director of the Competitiveness Office of Abu Dhabi, presented an overview of the report and explained the importance and the role of the indices it includes in improving and developing the business environment in the cities.
