Bahrain Heritage Festival kicks off

(Manama) – His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa deputised his Personal Representative Shaikh Abdullah bin Hamad Al Khalifa to patronise the opening ceremony of the 24th Annual Heritage Festival organised by Bahraini Authority for Culture and Antiquities (BACA) at Bahrain National Museum under the theme “Vocal Waves from Our Bahrain”.
Shaikh Abdullah was welcomed on arrival by BACA President Shaikha Mai bint Mohammed Al Khalifa, Capital Governor Shaikh Hesham bin Abdulrahman Al Khalifa, Assistant Undersecretary for Culture and National Heritage Shaikha Azza bint Abdulrahman Al Khalifa and Culture and Arts Director Shaikha Hala bint Mohammed Al Khalifa.
The opening ceremony was also attended by the Shura Council member, ministers, senior officials, members of the diplomatic corps and invitees.
After the national anthem, Shaikh Abdullah toured the festival’s sections and got informed about the exhibits on display which showcase Bahrain’s traditions and rich heritage. He also watched the folkloric bands which revived old sea and folkloric arts that characterised Bahrain throughout its history.
This year’s festival also featured a bazar showcasing traditional and contemporary products as well as traditional Bahraini dishes. Shaikh Abdullah talked while touring the festival with the participants and thanked them for their interest in Bahrain’s glorious heritage and keenness to revive it to stand witness of an important phase in the kingdom’s history. At the end of the tour, Shaikha Mai presented him with a commemorative gift.
Shaikh Abdullah lauded BACA keenness on holding the annual festival and diversifying its programme in order to revive Bahrain’s inherent heritage. He also praised Shaikha Mai’s efforts to highlight the kingdom’s rich culture by organising various functions and laying bridges of communication with different cultures.
On her part, Shaikha Mai extended thanks and gratitude to His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa for patronising the annual festival, describing the royal support as a reflection of HM the King’s keenness to develop the cultural scene in Bahrain and upgrade its infrastructure. She also thanked Shaikh Abdullah for inaugurating the festival on behalf of HM the King. She pointed out that the 24th edition of the festival is held between two cultural edifices: Bahrain National Museum which was founded in 1988 by late Amir Shaikh Isa bin Salman Al Khalifa and Bahrain National Theatre which was established as part of a project to invest in culture under the support of HM the King.
