The International Renewable Energy Agency’s (Irena) has decision to have its permanent headquarters in the UAE is a well-deserved acknowledgement of the Emirates’ dedication to the cause of green energy, both for itself and the world.
It also highlights the Emirati contribution to the development of renewable energy as the country has committed $22 million annually in direct funding for Irena for its first seven years, and subsequently, $15 million annually.
The collaboration with Irena undoubtedly enhances the UAE’s profile, which becomes the first developing country to host a major international organisation.
